What I’m Doing Right Now

Directing

I completed the latest cast change in Cabaret Year 5: rehearsing in Matt Willis and Katie Hall. Our gala night was on February 12th, and it is all going well. I’m enjoying taking a little bit of a break, before Year 6 auditions and the final cast change of Year 5 begin at the end of March.

Writing

I think I know the idea for the next TV spec, and I am currently seeding & finding out what it is. The Family Gut - my previous TV spec - has not received much traction, and I need to send it out to more places. I’m not fantastic at sharing my work.

Filmmaking

I am filming the first DIY/short/technical exercise this month - a 2.5 pager about a late pizza delivery - and I have already scheduled the second one for the end of March (before Cabaret starts up again in earnest). This is quietly what I am most excited and nervous about in my practice at the moment.

Other stuff

I want to get into blogging again. This Substack has been sitting with me, and it made me think about how I did get work from my blogging and social networking back in the day. My profile has retreated over the past few years - sort of by design, sort of a mutual shutting out of theatre circles (it’s complicated) - but I’d like to be part of conversations again. I find social networks quite difficult, so I’m working through what it might look like.

I just turned 42. Crikey. 42.

I’ve been enjoying watching movies: Sorry, Baby, The Mastermind & Sentimental Value were all fantastic. MUBI is on a roll. I also went to see The Voice of Hind Rajab at the BFI when I was feeling a little burnt out in rehearsal, and it reset me brilliantly.
